FAST FOR DARFUR: One Day between July 7-14th, 2008

24 HOURS, 25 BUCKS. One Day to Make a Difference.

The first day of the 100 Day Fast for Darfur relay started on April 7th, 2008, the 14th anniversary for the start of the genocide in Rwanda. This relay fast coincides with one hundred day Rwandan genocide in 1994. As more than 800,000 people were killed, the world stood paralyzed. The 100 Day Fast for Darfur relay is our way to stand in solidarity with the victims and survivors of Darfur, today's ongoing genocide, and to leverage the power of one day in the life of one person, to make a real difference.

Central Oregon will join in solidarity for one week to raise our support for those going hungry in Darfur. From July 7th through July 14th, one or more people in the area will be fasting in a relay until the week is over. Your one day of fasting will provide nearly 100 meals.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
1) Pick a date. 2) Sign-up. 3) Get support. 4) Fast. 5) Donate

First, PICK A DATE between July 7th and July 14th.

WFP provides monthly food rations to approximately 2 million internally displaced people—about one third of Darfur, Sudan’s population—and most of the refugees dependent on aid are women and children. Since 2004, an estimated 400,000 people in Darfur have been killed, and over 2 million have fled for safety.

It costs approximately 25 cents to for the World Food Program to fill one of the “Red Cups” it uses to give hungry kids a regular meal of porridge, rice or beans.
That means for the one day you choose to fast, and the $25 you choose to donate, you can give life-sustaining meals to as many as 10 children for 10 days. Think of the power one day can make.
